Using the map

Is there a printable version of the map?

At the moment there's not a simple way to print out the map on one page (I'm working on a PDF version for print) but you can access an image version in English and Chinese which you can print out!

Can I zoom the map in and out?

Currently there's no easy way to zoom in and out, this is one of the features I'm working on.

How do I hear the pronounciation of a station?

To hear the pronounciation of a station, click on the circular station symbol to pop up the information bubble. Then click the small "play" button which appears in the top right.

How do I find a station on the map?

There's a search box in the top left corner of the screen. Click and type part of the name of a station. A list of matching station names will be displayed. Choose a station to jump directly there.

Can I use the map offline?

The best way to use the map offline is to download an image version in English or Chinese.

Planning routes

How do I find the time/distance between two stations?

Click and hold your mouse on the first station, then drag to a second station and release the mouse. The suggested route, ticket price and a time estimate will be shown.

Why is the suggested route between stations X and Y wrong?

The routeplanner is not perfect yet, and doesnt always pick the most sensible route. Routes which involve changing lines more than once are most likely to have problems. If you have specific suggestions on a journey which you think the routeplanner doesn't work well on, please contact us.

Why does the routeplannner tell me to change at Shanghai Railway Station when it is not possible to interchange there?

At Shanghai Railway station, the line 1 and line 3/4 stations are some distance apart, and its necessary to leave the station and buy a new ticket if you want to change there. Despite these disadvantages, the routeplanner will suggest changing at Shanghai Railway Station if it calculates you will save time compared to a more indirect route. A similar situation applies at Hongkou Stadium. For more information, see this blog article.
