The new version of the city map is making good progress. Here’s a preview of the current development version (not yet online). You can see some of the new features, including the zoom slider, more detailed mapping and new pin types.

Nice job, just wonder .. what are you doing this for ? There’s a pretty good map over at SmartShanghai.com that already has most of the features that you are working on. Also it’s a matter of month until Google will release it’s english map version.

I’m doing this for fun, rather than for profit. I’m aware of the SmartShanghai map, but I believe my map will be better, as it will allow anyone to add information (in the Wikipedia model). I also think there’s room for multiple players. Yes, Google or Yahoo may come along but by focussing on a single city I can tailor the map to meet local needs.

Our company has a website called http://www.eecd.cn, its Chinese name is 精英企业合作指南. We are going to publish e-books (namely disks used for computer)to serve our clients, and we want to build a link with your metro map and city map. I wonder your decision and if it is possible, what procedures do I need, please inform me by E-mail as soon as possible!
Thanks very much!

I’ve been searching for an online map, yours seems to have lots more street names than the one at smartshanghai, really missing the zoom out facility. Additional districts would be nice too

Matt,
Great job on the maps! I’ve been lamenting about the slow progress on Google maps English version for China/Shanghai and you’ve gone ahead of them. I’ve spent a few hours adding stuff onto the map for my guests (I run a short-term room rental biz), and I have some feedback:
-make the landmark icons smaller - if there are several points of interest on the same block, the map looks very cluttered
-missing landmark icons: office building, conference center/exhibition halls (travelers would want to locate these)
-provide a printable version with names of landmarks displayed (can consider numbering each of the landmark objects and then providing detailed info on the side
I’d be interested to chat with you more about the maps. Feel free to email me at fay@faysrooms.com
